Kiriakou heads city’s IT department – The Suffolk News-Herald

Dr. Charles Kiriakou has been appointed as the metropolis of Suffolk’s director of details technological innovation.

City Supervisor Albert Moor designed the appointment efficient Wednesday, June 22.

Kiriakou has labored in the IT career for 35 years, with 20 decades of expertise in information and facts safety/cybersecurity. He began his IT career as a programmer and facts processing manager for a small meals distribution organization. He transitioned to the Federal Civil Service, wherever he worked 30 many years at quite a few Navy instructions.

For the Navy, he held the positions of LAN manager, network administrator, webmaster, details assurance system manager, deputy director and director of Operational Specified Approving Authority (ODAA), director of Operation Cyber Asset Reduction and Protection (Cars and trucks), deputy director of Navy Authorizing Official (NAO), and director of Navy Authorizing Formal at U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/US TENTH Fleet.

Kiriakou received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Master of Organization Administration (with IT focus) from Aged Dominion College and a doctorate in Data Technologies with specialization in Data Protection from Capella University. He is also a qualified information protection manager (CISM). He has taught graduate-degree IT and Cybersecurity programs at Purdue College Worldwide, Kaplan College and Northcentral University.
